My Rogue to Ruin by Erica Ridley
3.75

I really need to read more historical romances and My Rogue to Ruin was a perfect reminder of why! There’s just something about romances set in historical periods that hits in a way unique from contemporary romances, and they’re often perfect palette cleansers. This one especially was just a fun and refreshing read, though still with enough stakes to keep me invested.

I haven’t read the rest of this series, so I’m not sure if that would have changed my reading experience, but I really enjoyed this one! I liked both the leads, and even though they weren’t my favorite characters ever, I found their dynamic interesting and I liked the growth they both showed throughout this story. There was this narrative of learning to know your own worth, and forgive yourself for the mistakes you made in the past as you learn and grow from them, and I liked seeing how that narrative played out alongside the development of the romance itself. It complimented each other well!

I also ended up enjoying the locked-up setting of the story, as it felt like a lot of it ended up playing out within just one room. It wasn’t at all a locked room style setting, but it felt like it gave this small space for the characters to explore themselves and each other, and I liked how it narrowed the focus (spatially) on to just these two characters and their small world together. It was also just refreshing to read a historical romance that wasn’t all set at balls and in fancy sitting rooms as well!

Overall, I enjoyed this one and I’m excited to read more from this author (and in this series!)
