The Haven Realm Boxset is a bindup in the first three books in the Haven Realm series by Mila Young. Each of the books in the Haven Realm series is a standalone set in the same magical world of Haven. I think this is a really cool idea, especially since each of the books is a imagining of a different fairy tale. In the box set we have the stories of Little Red Riding hood, Beauty and the beast, and Rapunzel. For my review today, I am reviewing Scarlet's story in the box set today, but I have read the first two and am currently reading the third story. They are all a lot of fun. They are each standalone books, but they are on the shorter side. Probably around 200-250 pages each, which is nice because they are longer than novellas, but still on the shorter side, so you can read them very quickly.
Scarlet is an herbalist, and she finds herself in the middle of a wolf attack, which turns into something more sinister and bigger than she expected. I liked that while this was very romance heavy, there was also a villain in the story that was pretty interesting. I am excited to read more books set in this world because I want to see if there is a larger villain or some overlap between what is happening in the stories. Once I was finished reading I was left with a feeling that I wanted a bit more from Scarlet and her wolves. I wanted to see more of them just being. We had plenty of action and adventure, but then the story was mostly over. I want to revisit them and see more from them. Though, I will say that I a lot happened in this story.
The next book in the box set features Scarlet's friend, Bee. I loved that we already knew the main character as a witch from Scarlet's story. I won't get into too many of the specifics but if you are looking for an adult re-imagining of some of your favorite fairy tales, this might be a cool taste of the Haven realm series. The books I have read so far were between a 3 or 4 start read, but I am certainly excited to read them all. I completely love Mila's other series, the Gods and Monsters series which features gods from Greek Mythology. Those books are a bit longer, so if you would rather mythology than fairy tales, start there! But I love a box set because it allows you to explore a bunch of books in the series to get a taste for them. I do wish all of the books in the Haven Realm series were in the box set, instead of just three. Now I need to buy the others because I did really enjoy Hunted. This review was originally posted on Book Briefs
