When Elephants Weep: The Emotional Lives of Animals
by Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson
This is an okay book for an introduction to the topic, as it is very general, and just kind of draws from individual cases instead of species. If you are already familiar with the topic, or want more specificity, I highly recommend Mama's Last Hug by Frans de Waal instead.
This author also has a clear bias against therapy and psychiatry, so if that bothers you, I'd say just stay away from it altogether.
