This is more a sad love story than it is a horror story to me.

I'm not quite sure I enjoyed the pacing. The start is so slow it doesn't even seem like a horror, and the MC is so convince that the Countess is a good person at heart. And it slowly creeps showing a little bit more abuse here and there.

And then, it goes from a trickle to a waterfall. And the change is so sudden and so abrupt it feels like I'm reading a different book. It isn't a "slow descent to hell" but rather you wake up with a different person by your side. Kind of like the author started writing one story, but had a specific page goal in mind and went "Oh shit, I need to quickly finish this off"
