An excellent style guide. Having read the book, I'm now keen to go out and read the rest of Pinker's works, regardless of subject.
Far from the dry, prescriptive style guides of the past, this book is entertaining and informative. I appreciated the level of geekery that Pinker brought to the book (everyone loves trees!) and how he presented _reasons_ for the recommendations he gave. The examples were carefully chosen to provide entertainment while illustrating the points at hand.
The book's greatest strength, in my opinion, was how the early parts dealt with broad issues of clarity and comprehension, rather than getting mired in the weeds of low-level language rules. These parts probably contained the most useful advice, as well as properly framing the reasoning behind what was to come.
The end tailed off a little, though, into a laundry list of specific do's and don'ts, which were fine in and of themselves, but not what I showed up for. I'd considered docking the book a star based on this, but the section was very easy to identify and skip, if one didn't care for it, so really no harm done.
