Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
5.0

Thank you to Putnam for the ARC!

Kiley Reid's debut is a fast-paced, witty and engaging look at how even the most "woke" of white people still get issues of race wrong. Sometimes, in the case of these characters, really wrong.

One of my favorite things about this book is how distinctive and unique the characters' voices are. The chapters from Alix's point of view are so tonally different from those from Emira that they almost seem like they're written by different people. To me this speaks to Reid's talent as a writer, and shows how well she knows her characters.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the villain was so good at making herself seem like the victim. So good that she doesn’t even see herself as the villain at all.

This book is fast-paced and more exciting than any contemporary fiction book I've read in a while, so this one was definitely a quick read for me.

My review doesn’t do justice AT ALL to this book, so please read it so you can discover for yourself how amazing this book is. I'm excited to read whatever Kiley Reid writes next!
