Hex Education by Maureen Kilmer
3.0

Thanks to Putnam for the copy of this book!

A coven of three witches accidentally starts a fire in their dorm, burning down the building. Years later, the witches are safe in their lifestyles with hidden magic, but the fire’s anniversary is approaching and threatens to bring the real sequence of events to light.

Hex Education is a fun, domestic mystery-style witchy read. We follow Sarah’s point of view - she’s a classic housewife who became a realtor as her kids got older and she needed to fill her time. She uses magic to help around the house and also has a talking cat named Kitty Purry, but her family doesn’t know about her magic. It was fun to navigate her relatable marriage and parenting moments with elements of magic as it went awry. This was a really quick and enjoyable read, and perfect for lovers of witches or suburban settings. I could totally see this being a fun, seasonal movie on Netflix!

Read if you:
- like spells gone wrong
- are intrigued by a cat named Kitty Purry who sounds like she smokes a pack a day
- enjoy domestic or suburban mysteries
- want a quick and bingy witch read
