"All work is ultimately creative work because all of us are taking part in the ongoing creation of the world."
I honestly can't decide what to think about this book. There were some really important lessons that I'm reflecting on and thinking about incorporating into my healing journey. It's a quick and easy read, but gives you lots to think about. It's definitely accessible and relevant to non-Christians, but uses a few Biblical examples and references God and Christian life.
This book is a bit of a cross between a sermon, a blog post, and a TED talk. It's got frequent anecdotes, is written in loose, small paragraphs, with bolded sentences and tiny sections. It's clear that Bell is a speaker/preacher, and while the style does fit the message, it's definitely not for everyone.
He shares my love of the word "create," my idea of life being continuously creative, and my fascination with Genesis, which I very much appreciate and I relate to a lot of the ideas. That said, there were only a few ideas that I felt were really unique to this book and Bell - there were many things that seemed familiar and that I had heard before. The way he says them is definitely important, and he brings ideas together well, but it didn't feel like a revolutionary work, just a helpful one.
I've only read one other of his books, Sex God, which I found much more unique and relevant to my life than this one. I am going to check out more of his books, and I'm thinking he's kind of a hit-or-miss author, with books and with points/chapters in his books.
