The Final Girl Support Group
by Grady Hendrix
4.5 stars
Another great one from Grady! I feel this was the most thought out book, so far. He put a lot of work into it with the various articles and papers and reviews at the start of each chapters. The creation of entirely new retro slasher films for this book's universe (Scream and Friday the 13th, and possibly Heather's Dream King was Freddy Kreuger?) which made this book almost a fun AU adventurous look into what happens to the girls that are sole survivors at the end of horror movies.
I also enjoyed some of the chapter articles and parallel symbolism he was making between the torture and pain these women go through just for others' entertainment. The male gaze reducing a woman's body to an object onto which they project or act out their dark desires. Even after surviving the worst torture, bodies mangled and destroyed, humiliation, and no offers of help, women are brushed aside as weak when they have survived more than any man ever will.
