We Have Always Been Here
by Samra Habib
Beautiful memoir of resiliency. I will readily admit have little to no knowledge on Pakistan and Muslim culture. Samra provided a window into her world of being an Ahmadi Muslims and her journey and in discovering her queer identity. The story felt a bit detached as if she was reporting the life of another and I wonder if this is a trauma response. Which it very well be. At the end of her book, I feel as if I didn’t really get to know her. However, it did ignite a fire for me to understand and learn more of her culture, Islamic faith, and Queer Muslims’ experiences.
