I really enjoyed The Great Hunt, it completely gripped me and I ended up playing the audiobook almost non stop over a weekend until I reached the end. The characters felt a lot more developed than they did in book one and the worldbuilding even more complex and interesting. 

There were unfortunately some limited parts of the story which dragged, especially one particular sequence around the middle of the book which I just wanted to be over. The plot also felt a little bit nonessential, revolving predominantly around retrieving an object which the characters had possessed at the start of the book. Despite those criticisms though this book was a significant improvement on the first one (which I also enjoyed). I loved it.
