Things I Should Have Said by Jamie Lynn Spears
4.0

This review is solely based on the book, not the person writing the book. It’s always difficult to rate memoirs/autobiographies as they’re about someone’s life, but I guess I would rate this 4 stars.
I listened to this as an audiobook narrated by Jamie Lynn as part of my Spotify premium membership and did enjoy it and the storytelling held my attention. While we’ll never know if everything written is 100% truthful, or exactly as it happened, every person does have a right to tell their story and I think Jamie Lynn did that. I do think she victimized herself in certain parts, however, I went into this with an open mind and I’m also keeping in mind everyone has their own perception/perspective of events. Of course, portions of the book do mention or have to do with Britney, as that’s part of her immediate family, and Britney was a significant part of her life growing up; but the entire book wasn’t just about Britney. I did appreciate her not bashing her sister and she frequently says that when they were growing up Britney was like a second mother to her, helped raise her, & was a great sister. I do feel bad for both her and Britney as it seems they both didn’t have a full support system they should have with their parents, as they both went significant periods of time without one or both of them. One chapter that tugs on your heart strings was the one about her daughter’s accident. I can only imagine how scary that whole event was for her. Overall, this was not a bad autobiography/memoir.

Just a side-note: As someone who loves books and to read, I would like to say I’m disappointed in the Goodreads community to see all the 1-star reviews from people who haven’t even read the book themselves. I think it’s unfair and immature to rate books with a low rating you haven’t actually read, just because you don’t like the person who wrote the book. Judge the book content, not the person. If you want to bitch and moan about the person, there’s other outlets for that. Book reviews and ratings should be solely based on the actual book.
