My Lovely Wife
by Samantha Downing
I really loved the idea of this book, however I felt it was poorly executed. The "big gasp" final chapters were more of an "eyeroll - saw this coming a mile away".
I wish it had been just a little more subtle, so that I wondered more if I was simply paranoid or not.
However.. it's a.. perfect reflection of a long term relationship. The entire book is of the husbands introspective thoughts. He goes down memory lane a lot, and most of it is seemingly useless information. But it builds an image of two people who have been together for what is considered a long time today. And how they were different people at different times, and how they as a couple was a different type of couple at different times.
Which, would probably have made an excellent contemporary fiction, if we removed all the serial killer stuff.
