Daisy Jones & The Six
by Taylor Jenkins Reid
“I wore what I wanted when I wanted. I did what I wanted with who I wanted. And if somebody didn’t like it, screw ‘em.”
Did I read a different book than everyone else?Like, am I missing something? So many people have raved about this book. Unfortunately it didn’t do it for me.
This was like one of those band documentaries in book form. The whole book is written in interview transcripts of the band members recounting the band’s rise and fall. This writing style made the story really boring and emotionless. I also had a hard time keeping all the characters straight in the beginning.
Also, Daisy Jones is beautiful. Not just any beautiful, but really beautiful. Did you know Daisy Jones is beautiful? I know she is. Since she was described that way by almost every single character. Daisy was such an annoying character. She is described as a person everything came easy to. I also really disliked Billy. He was super controlling with everything in the band. The arguing between these two was really irritating, tiresome and predictable. The other characters felt underdeveloped, almost like afterthoughts. The whole story played into the musician stereotype of drug addiction, which I feel has been overdone.
I almost put this book down several times. I kept reading because of my need to complete things. I kept hoping it was going to go somewhere, but the ending was so unsatisfying. I really only enjoyed the last 40 pages or so.
Overall, an average, underwhelming book.
