burntotears 's review for:
Red, White & Royal Blue
by Casey McQuiston
This read like a fanfic, which isn't a bad thing, really, but it still felt a little underwritten, I guess? It was longer than it really needed to be -- the tension could've used more time in the spotlight; some real yearning would've helped, I think.
And I feel like Alex's character went from super douchebag to love-sick puppy rather quickly. The whole 'we are enemies' thing was kind of silly to even have in there seeing as they hadn't interacted enough in the past to even be considered enemies.
I know I'm kind of nit-picking, but even as a fanfic writer, it just felt underwhelming in a lot of places and I think that was mostly due to it being unnecessarily long.
