All About Us
by Tom Ellen
A modern take on Dickins 'A Christmas Carol', All About Us could definitely be the book of the kind of Christmas romcom you watch on Netflix on a chilly night.
The book wasn't bad as such but it wasn't what I wanted it to be. Everything felt a little too neat and predictable. Reading the first half took me an age and part of me wonders if I only finished the other half to get it done, though the story did warm up a little halfway.
This said, the characters had some very meaningful conversations that, though they felt a little forced, had me thinking. Ben's Mum was a wonderful character who I'd love to meet for a natter over a hot cup of tea!
Ultimately though, I just didn't like the main character. He just came across as a mopey arsehole, flitting between two women when he should have just been acting less of an idiot.
Not something I'd read again.
