The Haunting of Hill House
by Shirley Jackson
2,5/5. It seem to have two kinds of reader for this book. The first one are those who think this is a masterpiece and that are in for it. And there is a secong group, which I'm part of, who don't really understand the hype about the book. I see that the author can write, the writing style is good and I agreed with that book being a inspiration for all the books/movies about haunted house that will follow. Let's not forget that this book was written in 1959 (if I remeber correctly). That being said, this book have two major flaws. First one the character who were not interesting to me in anyway and I think that to be scare for someone, like horror genre it supposed to make you feel, you need to care for them first, which was not the case here. Last point, it's wayyyyyyy too slow. Basically nothing happen for more then half the book, and even when it start, there's not much happening. I was expecting way more. So even if this may be a brick at the base of the wall of the horror genre, it's didn't catch my interest in our modern days. I would have love to love it... but I didn't.
