The Last Girl
by Joe Hart
The Last Girl is a dystopian novel where a worldwide epidemic happens that causes girl births to become very rare. The government decides that in order to try and “find a cure” they take all the women who have given birth to girls and young girl children to a place called the ARC. Zoey are main character has been at the ARC since she can remember and wants to escape.
What I loved about this book was the suspense from the beginning I was enthralled and wanting to know what was going to happen next. I also really liked that this was not a book heavily surrounded by a romance even though there was a small romance.
What I didn’t like about think book is that it was the same “girl fights the government” trope. This aspect of the book game me Hunger Games vibes which I feel is being overdone lately. I also didn’t like how little diversity seemed to be in this book. Since I have been trying to read more diversely this year this bothered me.
I think that this was a good first book and I do plan to continue on with the series.
