New Avengers by Jonathan Hickman, Vol. 2 by Adriano Dall'Alpi, Riccardo Pieruccini, Frank Martin, David Curiel, Jason Keith, Jonathan Hickman
4.0

Damn man it's no wonder everyone hates the Avengers books now. To top Hickman's run is near impossible from what I can tell.

So the New Avengers are planning on figuring out how to stop the end. We all know this. However, that means killing other timelines to ensure they live longer. The book opens with the death of two more timelines. Then we get to the meat of the storyline here. This one world is filled with Justice League like characters who somehow stopped their end and now the New Avengers decide that they'd like to meet them to figure out a solution. All doesn't go well, a fight breaks out, and we are introduced to the other side of our heroes who must do things they never wanted to do.

Good: The build up to the end is great. We actually feel the end coming and the stakes are high. The conversations between each character feel on edge, and rightfully so, and the battle with the alternate timeline is amazing and brutal. The ending leaves you in shock and awe and you can honestly say this is one of the best storylines ever for the Avengers.

Bad: The first two issues can be a bit hard to follow and confusing. I also thought the last two issues art got really meh compared to the rest. Like a huge step down and the reactions and emotional moments felt less impactful.

Overall though, New Avengers is fantastic. I still think Volume 3 of Avengers is the best in this series but this is very high up there. Time for "Time Runs out" next! This is a 4 out of 5.
