booksandbotanics 's review for:
The Cavern of the Fear
by Emily Rodda, Marc McBride
The first book in this series takes our heroes to a secret land where they have to find the first part of the ‘Pirran Flute’. A flute which gives such magical sounds, it can defeat the Shadow Lord.
This is the second series by Emily Rodda in the same universe. The books are aimed for children (around the age of 10).
The writing style of Emily Rodda is still the same as in the first series. It reads very fluent and you can’t stop reading. There happens a lot in this book, the pacing is high. Nevertheless it feels never rushed and there are plenty of details. Literally nothing happens that isn’t somewhat important or helpfull to the plot, which is really nice and also part of the reason Emily Rodda’s books are so short and read so fluent.
I didn’t like Jasmine in this book, she’s quite whiny and naive, totally different than in the first series.
I did really like some of the minor characters in this book, like Glock the Jalis and the fighting spiders Flash and Fury.
