Books 1 and 2 of Vampire Academy seem targeted at teens - there's a lot of cursing, the main antagonist in book 1 is a girl who says mean things... And then, book 3 marks the beginning of the second arc, where people die, mental illness reached new limits, vengeance is needed and Rose isn't a teenager anymore, she's a grown-up who's fighting to save her world.
