Listen, I get it. Cool girl in a cool band in the '70s. I'm very down. It could have been great, but the format just killed it for me. Reid's writing was lovely, but the interview-style format really restricted her. You always hear about the 'show, don't tell' rule of writing, and this is a great example of why. Because interviews are just people speaking the entire novel was characters telling you what was going, and usually I don't mind a little telling. I can forgive it if the story is good. This just took it way too far. She tried to mitigate it a little by having some unreliable narration, but ultimately it just made reading unenjoyable.
I think she could have had a great story, it just fell really flat. If you liked the sound of, pick up a different TJR book.
