This book was atmospheric and very creepy. I could see this as a horror movie and every stuttered scene scaring the Bejeezus out of me. I read this in one day and was hooked pretty quickly.
What I Liked:
The story was excellent. You were unable to keep a grasp on one theory for very long. The excerpts of newspaper articles and scholarly journals helped to push the narrative that you are not quite sure what is true.
What I Didn’t Like:
{spoiler-esque}
I didn’t like not having it neatly resolved at the end. That is very much a personal preference. My brain, deeply involved in the story, does not like the idea that we do not know where the real version of anyone is now. Do they really just disappear? Is there an alternate universe? Are they locked in a room in the house that will appear and disappear at random? I wanted to know that Charlie and Shylo were okay. I wanted to know how the house did it.
I can see how the lack of tying it up in a nice little bow at the end can lend to the discomfort. I know that’s the point. My brain just was like no, please, don’t do this to me. CHARLIE?!
