Faith Unraveled: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask Questions
by Rachel Held Evans
It me. (The subtitle, not the monkey.) This is a sort of spiritual memoir ("sort of memoir": she was still pretty young when she wrote it) from a beloved former fundamentalist evangelical who tragically passed away recently. This was a re-read for me in preparation for reading her two newer books "Searching for Sunday" (about the church) and "Inspired" (about the Bible). Rachel was unflinchingly honest and compassionate. It's not a perfectly structured book, but I'd recommend it as a great starting place if you or someone you know has struggled with their fundamentalist, evangelical faith. [Hint: At least one someone you know *has* struggled with their fundamentalist, evangelical faith. 🙋♀️ And I can't imagine that person will be the last.] It may not be a lifeline, but it may be the next safe lily pad in their swamp of fear and doubt.
