The Ballad of Dinah Caldwell
by Kate Brauning
Dinah's family makes a subsistence living on a farm in the Ozarks. They have access to a well, which local kingpin Gabriel wants, to the point where he's willing to murder for it. Dinah goes on the run, but she wants revenge, and she's going to get it.
It's a little twisty-turny plot wise, with a few scary moments. It's set in the near future, and seems sadly realistic. A potential love triangle turns into something else at the end.
