A Swan's Sweet Song by J. Arlene Culiner
4.0

I loved how this story started. With just the first few sentences I got a sense for Carston as a person and as a professional playwright. He dislikes for pop stars with a passion, but Sherry Valentine isn’t your typical pop star, and she’s not a young kid either. She hates how she has to make herself up to be someone different in the public’s eye. And now she wants a new career as an actress, which leads to an interview with her and Carston. Despite Carston’s initial distaste with the idea of being interviewed with Sherry, he’s immediately intrigued by her.

The fact that the characters are older (40s-50s) made this story so refreshing. I adore romance at all ages. Sherry’s dialogue throughout the story is great. I love her witty comebacks, especially when she's talking to her manager, Charlie. I also enjoyed the insight into her life as a country pop star. And I enjoyed Carston’s manner. He’s a loner and a writer, which I could totally relate to, but he's also a gentlemen who can be romantic.

I don’t mind it when characters fall in love quickly, but to me Sherry and Carston fell in love too fast. Their first meeting was brief. And on their second meeting their hearts were already flip-flopping, which felt sudden for two people who didn’t know each other and even disliked each other when they first met. But as the story when on and sparks flew (both out of anger and passion), they relationship grew and that was fun to witness.

This was a sweet romantic story and I enjoyed it. Sparks fly, secrets come out in the open, and romance buds. I recommend this story to country fans and readers who enjoy light romance.
