Listened to this on audiobook and adored both the work itself and the narration. It was so much more than I expected it to be. As a parent, it was both heart wrenching and eye opening. It was a beautifully written, excellently plotted story, brimming with social commentary without ever once being preachy. The characters are dealt with so honestly yet graciously, that you can't help but feeling for them in their imperfections and even cruelties. Ng managed to take a very difficult subject, the loss of a child, and use it to illuminate the universal aspects of family life, without ever making the reader feel suffocated by the difficulty of the topic itself. Very interested in reading more from her.
