The Upside of Unrequited
by Becky Albertalli
I loved this. On the cuteness meter it gets a 9. Molly is a girl, wanting to be woman. She is an overweight, late bloomer, who just wants her first kiss. Not a twenty-seventh crush. Then there is Cassie, her perfect twin sister, who is currently falling in love with Mina, and leaving Molly behind. However, Will and Reid are looming on the horizon. But all things happen in their own pace, in their own way. This book could easily date itself. It takes place right around the time the supreme court upheld the Marriage Equality Act, making it finally legal for Molly’s mom’s to marry. The is frequent mention of social media sites, and activities, plus some slang that may not make the long run. But I think this book could hold it’s own. It has that cuteness factor that makes it a joy to read. I smile ear to ear as I read this, and now have a fuzzy feeling, and must go kiss my guy.
