The Magnolia Murders by Aimee Nicole Walker
5.0

4.5 stars. Great start to the next phase of Sawyer and Royce’s life together.

Royce and Sawyer are back but with a slight difference. They are no longer working together as partners but that does mean that they can be open about their relationship at work.
Sawyer has been promoted and leads the Cold Case Unit and the first task is to solve 3 historical Magnolia Queen Pageant murders. Royce is mulling over a change in his career direction but still in homicide when the latest Magnolia Queen contender is murdered.

As the past and present collide with the investigation of the murders, Sawyer and Royce are back working together again solving the mystery and trying to find that elusive work/life balance.
The mystery element has plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting for both the characters and the reader. As for the romance element, Royce and Sawyer still sizzle together with plenty of steam interspersed with sweet, tender moments of intimacy.

I fell into this very enjoyable book immediately and couldn’t put it down. The mystery kept me fully engaged as did this next phase in Sawyer and Royce’s life together. Seeds are sown for what we can expect for them both professionally and personally and I can’t wait for more!

As they are an established couple from the Zero Hour series, you really should read that series first to appreciate this first instalment of the Matrimony and Mayhem series.
