Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton
1.0
dark mysterious slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This was awful, in a way credence wasn't. The writing and prose was childish and didn't help with the fact the book covers incredibly dark topics to the point of feeling almost cartoonish.

Adeline was a dumb af fmc and Zade was a hypocritical mess- he saves women and girls but also stalks and basically commits SA but the narrative does nothing to challenge this behaviour or maybe point out the fact he's doing the same shit that the guys he kills do, it doesn't matter that he's doing it to an adult, it's just as awful.

The book can't seem to commit to non con/dub con, the characters flip flop between the nsfw scenes being assault and something they enjoy, in fact the author is more concerned with warning you about the fact the book ends on a cliff hanger than actually going into detail about the non con/dub con.

I personally cannot find non con romantic and so I wasn't sold on the 'romance' in it, finding it extraordinarily repetitive to the point of wanting to DNF. The 'plot' for little of it there is, is boring and tropey beyond comparison and I found myself skimming towards the end of the book due to just how repetitive it was.

The smut wasn't good, the characters were annoying and boring to read, the romance was awful, the plot was just bad, and it reads like a wattpad book on occasion. Do not read, if you're looking for a good dark romance go read The Mindfuck Series, much better in terms of damn near everything this book attempts to try.
