Wytches, Volume 1 by Scott Snyder
4.0

New Review: Well time changes everything, huh? I really dug this on re-read almost 10 years later. I loved the hell out of the characters, and maybe it's because I'm a father now, and also the main girl is named Sailor which makes me want to protect her even more (My daughter is named Sailor!) So it's great stuff. I really enjoyed almost all of it, the only thing that stays the same is sometimes the art is REALLY hard to tell what's happening, especially second half. But still, what a awesome Halloween book! Upgrading to 4 stars!

Old Review: I guess I never got to reviewing this title...odd. Anyway, everyone knows I love horror stuff.

I was raised on Friday the 13th and Nightmare. I love slashers, but I love darker, more twisted scary stuff even more.

Babadook is the best horror piece of art in the last ten years.

So is Wytches even in the same sentence? At moments, yes, overall? No.

I for one had a love/hate with the art. Sometimes I thought it looked insane. Like so damn good, especially some of the designs of the Wytches and the atmosphere. Other times looked like a muggy mess of colors and weird shapes that just hurt my eyes.

The story sometimes was captivating, like the start. Then lost me by the end and I hardly cared what happened to even the main character. Which is a shame cause she's super interesting at the start.

It just had a lot of back and forth for me. The idea of these crazy Wytches coming and stealing away a child is awesome, but I couldn't help but get bored at points and dislike the art a lot at moments. So for now it rest at a 3 out of 5.

P.S. - Still <3 you Snyder.
