What If It's Us
by Becky Albertalli, Adam Silvera
This is more of a 3.75* rating (I keep going back & fourth)
I absolutely adored Arthur- he was the heart of this story for me. Every time he spoke, i felt so happy. His giddy ness, his quirkiness and how shy he is made my heart burst! Ben has his great qualities but he was also super hard on himself, it made me feel bad for how he felt about himself and his life and felt like it dragged on too much. I got annoyed a little bit everytime he mentioned Dylan. I get it to the extent but like, he mentioned him any moment he could. The representation was great- we need more Jewish rep & Latino in the LGBTQ community and in general. I loved Bens parents, they made me happy. Dylan wasn’t my favorite character BUT with him having a heart condition hit me because i have one as well. I also wish their was more to the ending & I felt more closure with them. I wish they had more time together.
Overall, I definitely felt a connection with the story and I’m so glad i picked it up. Becky and Adam will always have a special place in my heart & I’ll continue reading everything they publish both separately and together. <3
