Ace of Spades
by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé
I did not expect Ace of Spades to be what it was and my mind was blown! I spent 8 hours reading the entire book on a car ride... I did not want to put it down even for a short break. This book has layers and it's really hard for me to write a review that does it justice. An unsettling, dark academia with a touch of queer had my thoughts and feelings splattered everywhere. The writing gave me Gossip Girl vibes but the hate was so much worse than Serena sleeping with Blair's boyfriend (a little something for those who love that show as much as I do). The expectation for senior year takes a dive when Aces starts to send out school wide messages targeting and terrorizing the secrets of the only two black students, Chiamaka and Devon. These two unlikely characters have to unite when Aces becomes more aggressive than just spreading rumors. The climax was short but sweet and justice was served. I really can't give you more than that without giving the book away but all I can tell you is TO READ IT NOW.
