Revival
by Stephen King
Revival is a interesting book if not for a okayish last few chapters.
This story is all about Jamie and how his life as a small boy goes in a interesting direction after meeting a preacher called Charles Jacob. Now Charles Jacob suffers a awful tragedy and decides to go against his very teaching, trying to understand death, and maybe even learn the secret behind it. What happens after we die. And maybe that's not the best idea.
While scary in the sense of a bleak and utterly terrible feel of dread of what awaits us after our long or short life, depending on how you view it, it does lack a personal horror punch others have talked about. As someone who isn't a fan of death, and have my own personal questions, I enjoyed the ride here but the destination went a bit to Lovecraftian for me.
Saying that I enjoyed 75% of this book a lot even in it's lowest parts. I think Jamie is a very likeable main protagonist and easy to relate to. I think Charles is a perfect manipulator and we all have someone like him in our life. And think the supporting cast is all interesting.
This reminds me a lot of Pet Semetery but I thought that book tugged on emotional beats and fears better. This one felt a little less personal. But overall a interesting book and I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5.
