Beneath the Sugar Sky
by Seanan McGuire
My heeeeeeart I’m so happy omg !!!! I love this series so much and I really hope there will be a fourth book. I could read about this world (and the infinite worlds within it) forever <3
My one issue with the book though was Cora. I really appreciate McGuire including a plus sized character and giving her insecurities and a complex personality, I think that was fantastic and we need more of them. Unfortunately I felt that, in her attempt to reiterate that Cora was "more than the fat girl" that's exactly what she made her be. It seemed like every single time Cora spoke or had a thought, it was about her size in some way. Whether that be her describing an insecurity she has in relation to her size, or reminder herself and the reader than she is more than just her weight. Having her character only ever talk and think about her size was not an effective way to have a plus sized character that was more than the fat girl. I really appreciate the amount of diversity in this series, that's just my one complaint about it. Otherwise she did a great job at having a cast of characters that was actually really diverse and well thought out.
