I read this book via e-arc, which I obtained from Edelweiss. So thank you, Edelweiss!
TW: death of parent, mention of battling cancer diagnosis, discussion of cults, mention of past abuse
Beach Read was such a fun read for me (see what I did there), and definitely put me in the mood for summer! I liked how the book was just self-aware enough to poke at itself, and it definitely had its more serious moments but still was full of escapism and enough fluff to roll around in. Also, I had initially been hesitant going in to this book as the genre is out of my comfort zone, but this book definitely exceeded my expectations. My one complaint is that I wish that the best friend (Shadi) had been more of a complex character rather than leaning into the "POC friend" trope/stereotype. Overall, would recommend if you are in the mood for a fun, romance-filled read.
