I liked how magic was a part of the story but not the only theme. Plus romance and giving the finger to patriarchal societal expectations placed on women? My cup of tea! Give me a female MC who defies “polite society” any day! My overall opinion is that I liked Mexican Gothic more because I was sold from the very beginning, but The Beautiful Ones grew on my a lot as I read it! PS - I knew I was singing the Hamilton dueling song while reading this for a reason!
