Finally getting to this masterpiece of a novel and I'm so glad I did. While Emezi's world is a bit difficult to follow at first, the lyrical nature of the prose and the hidden monsters will keep you reading.

Emezi also gives us a lot to think about and the ways that this imagined world reflects our own. Monsters aren't always in plain sight, and pretending they don't exist isn't the way to get rid of them. A timely novel and one everyone should read.
