I’ve been having a hard time figuring out how to verbalize how much I enjoyed this book. The story is unique, the fighting sequences are similar to anime, and the magic system has both its rewards and risks. I think what I’m most impressed with is the character work. In one 500 page book I felt like I knew our main characters. Like I could find a tangible thing in real life and have an idea whether or not the characters would like it. 

The writing was descriptive without being overly wordy. It did a great job illustrating the world, the magic, and the characters. At times the pacing felt both fast and slow, but in a very satisfying way. Right from the start I was interested and left wanting to know what was next. 

I am very excited to continue this series.
