Welp, I guess I’m done with these books now. I’m kind of sad about it but this book was really good. Rowling did a great job in cementing the Harry Potter series as great with this final book. It had everything I wanted, touching character moments, fun action senes and that magical feeling you get from reading Harry Potter.

Let’s talk about the complexity of character we see throughout this book. its throughout a lot of the series but I just love how Rowling lets us question the character’s Harry put on a God-like pedestal. This book shows us Albus Dumbledore as a flawed man and less of an unbeatable God who does no wrong. While some left the series despising Dumbledore and question why Harry forgave him and I personally can’t forgive him as much as Harry did the fact that Rowling put him in the position to be questioned really awes me. But I feel like going Dumbledore a chance to explain his actions in King’s Cross left his arc too unambiguous for my liking unlike characters like Sirius who died without any resolution.

Harry will always be one of my favorite protagonists and being in his head and seeing him process all that happened around him will always give all the emotions. I have never cried while reading any of these books but harry walking to his own death surrounded by his family got me close to tears. The bravery of this boy bathed with the realistic emotions he faces makes him an excellently written character

I’m not mad about the Epilogue or Snape’s redemption. I’ve always really loved Harry and Ginny and liked seeing all my favorite characters happy with kids in the end. I also really like Severus Snape as a character, ever since he called Fudge an idiot at the end of Goblet of Fire he kind of wormed his way into my favorite characters. While I don’t condone all of his actions throughout the series I do agree with Harry’s assessment that he was one of the bravest people in the series. (Note, my option my be influenced by some amazing Snape centered fan fiction so take it with a grain of salt.)

I was quite surprised by the focus the Malfoy family had in this book and especially how sympathetic they were painted. I found both Narcissa and Lucious’ love for their son quite touching and really added dimension to the conflict between good and evil and I love parents who love their children so…

God damn the entire battle of Hogwarts gave me all the feels. Seeing the place we sent the last six books decimated and seeing these kids and professors using up to defend it was just too much. That battle was an amazing culmination to the last six books.

Other Random Thoughts

*Kreature’s Tale. (Aka the chapter I realized Regulus Black was the unsung hero of the HP universe)
*Its been 7 books and I still don’t like Ron (I’m Joking. Not really)
*I’ve been so invested in Percy Weasley and actively cheered when he showed up to the battle of Hogwarts.
*Phineas Nigellus continues to be my favorite minor character in this book.
*The fact that Luna painted her friends faces on her bedroom wall was the sweetest thing.
*Am I the only one high key pissed that Tonks and Lupin both decided to go to the battle even though they had a newborn son.
*Moody Harry definitely made a return in this one and I loved it
*Harry’s savagery to Lupin when he asked to go Horcrux hunting with the trio was pretty great
*Neville goddamn Longbottom. Dude was slicing heads and taking names.

I’m forgetting to mention other things about this book but thats kinda what happens when you write a review for a book you read over two months ago. This series was great and I’ll cherish it for a good long while.
