melannrosenthal 's review for:
The Handmaid's Tale
by Margaret Atwood
If you haven't read this: Read. It.
Dystopian novels are not just a trend proliferating the market, they're also outrageously relevant right now because of how easily society could take a hard right into such chaos. Some are better than others and many are compared to Atwood's horrifying world. Atwood just... got it. The writing is superb, specific, eerie. She so adeptly places me right there alongside "Offred" as she remembers the time before and considers how she might change her present.
A great reread for me as my Feminist Classic pick for Booked 2018.
