This book is the perfect palate cleanser to YA fantasy fans like yours truly. Each chapter starts out with a brief blurb of whatever insane thing is happening to the "indie kids" (ie, your heroes in the average YA fantasy) but the real story is about the normal kids just living their lives, warts and all, in the town where these YA fantasy things happen. It's a beautiful and tongue-in-cheek story, the kind of thing that only Patrick Ness could pull off.
