Crazy Rich Asians
by Kevin Kwan
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan tells the story of Rachel Chu and her boyfriend Nicholas Young as they head to Singapore for the summer to attend his friend’s wedding and meet his family. Rachel and Nick live in New York City and are both professors at NYU. They live a normal life so Rachel has no idea what she’s about to get herself into when agreeing to go to Singapore for summer vacation. Upon arriving, Rachel soon realizes that Nick hasn’t told her everything about his family or his past. She finds out that he comes from a very wealthy family, and that he happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor. Can their relationship withstand his nosy family and scheming social climbing friends?
I had a hard time getting into this book. Part 1 was a slow read for me maybe because I’d already seen the movie prior to reading the book. I almost gave up which I never do, but thankfully I powered through, and the book definitely picked up once Part 2 started. I loved the movie when I saw it, and I loved the book as well. I gave 4 out of 5 stars because the first part moved slowly for me. I definitely look forward to reading Kwan’s sequel, China Rich Girlfriend.
