This story was so sad, and it's unfortunate that this happened often during this era.

I didn't like many of the main characters (besides the son and Caroline and Al) but I don't think I was supposed to.

This is what happens when one keeps a secret from another, especially a spouse. Thank goodness there are so many regulations now and people who have fought for special needs children to have more opportunities.
