Claudia Lux presents us with quite a believable version of a potential afterlife in Sign Here. Yes, there’s some of the typical torture you’d expect but there’s also office jobs with mountains of paperwork, enough environmental annoyances to keep you uncomfortable, and only Jäegermeister in the bars. Just like with any good business, you can work your way up; but mess up and you end up Downstairs.

Peyote Trip has worked his way up Hell’s corporate structure, all the way to the Fifth Floor. His job is to make deals for souls. But Peyote has bigger aspirations and a plan that he’s one deal away from accomplishing. How many people, both in Hell and on Earth, are going to throw a wrench in those plans and make it doubtful they can come to fruition?

What a great debut novel from Claudia Lux. Twists and turns in all the right places. Multiple narrators makes for short, fast paced chapters that keep you turning pages and wanting to know what happens next to each character. Part thriller, part mystery, part humor, tons of secrets, all combined to make a great read. Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.
