I found this book hard to get through. It felt like rehashing some of the same from previous books and with how much information was thrown in it felt a bit rushed. Based on the pace of the rest of the series I think this could have nearly been two separate books. The whole trial thing again and the way Kai and Pae pine just felt like rehashing the previous books. I feel their story lacked a lot of the past romance and so much of their scene time was just “you know we can’t do this,” “but I want to”. It felt like they had the same conversation a million times instead of the stolen moments I think the author was going for. There was a heavy focus of how “poetic” Kai was and some of it just felt a bit cringe to me. I found myself thinking can they just have a normal conversation. I feel it missed at times where they could have had more of that tension filled banter but it was so focused on them pinning and moping after the other.
Kitts story line was a bit odd like his character regressed and the ending for him just felt a bit meh. The chapter of them reading his letters felt rushed in throwing a lot of information at us about him. I did find myself liking parts of it but I was just a bit disappointed, I think I just wanted more of the tension banter you get in the first book
