Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan
4.0

The version that I read (the one pictured) was updated in 2010, but the story is older than I am. That being said, it still resonates with today's youth and what appears to be going on in our education system. A class full of seniors hate their English teacher. He does not go easy on anyone. Brian Griffin was once a university English professor and noticed that his college students were not being adequately prepared for college academic while in high school. He changes careers to become the high school teacher that students should have.

That being said, the students HATE him. Even strait A students struggle for low B's in his class. Some students, Mark, Jeff, and Betsy hatch a plan to scare Mr. Griffin so bad that he calms down on the hard stuff in Class. They get the student council president David in on the caper, and highest graded student in the class Jennifer to be the silent partner. But as can be predicted, things go horribly wrong.

I liked this book. It's Lois Duncan so of course its well written, but I find the topic is so right on what we have been talking about in our library. We know so many students who get out of high school and head to the local community college or university who have to take one or more remedial reading courses. Plus, who honestly has not wanted to do their teacher in a time or two.
