The fact that Atwood thought of this world in the 80s just based on what she was seeing around her at the time is a testament to how aware women are of their worst fears being possible. The world today feels like so many steps closer to the world of Gilead and the worst part is that it was voted for rather than forced. Feels like a warning for what could be if we don't stand up for ourselves.
