Down in Flames by Parker St. John
3.5

I was really looking forward to West and Michael's book. Friends to lovers with an age gap and some hurt/comfort, it sounded like it had everything I wanted. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. It felt like we were dropped half way into their romance, and then we only got half the story with the single POV. I don't mind single vs dual normally but this one for sure would've benefited from a more rounded story. Michael felt really one dimensional and I would've loved to see him coming to terms with his feelings and working through his need for control. I wish we saw more of their friendship - how close they were and then how it fell apart - rather than be dropped in months later in the aftermath.

I thought West's character was really flushed out and while not perfect, had a good arc throughout the story (which was why I wish Michael had the same opportunity). I'm still liking the small town setting, but why was Tucker missing! Aren't he and West BFFs? There were some sweet Cal and Eli moments though.

I don't think this series is exactly working for me. I keep thinking the next one is going to be better and it's just not hitting. On the fence about finishing it out, they are quick reads and I've made it this far but we'll see!
