Aquaman, Volume 1: The Trench
by Geoff Johns
This was...pretty great! I read Rebirth Aquaman before this and thought it was decent. I was actually excited to check this out because kept hearing this is one of the better Aquaman runs (John's part anyway). So this is kind of a good jumping on point. Gives you enough to catch up but also for long time fans they will enjoy a lot of the background hints and such. So let's get to it!
What I liked: The art is fantastic. Very sleek and easy to follow. Love the redesigns of a lot of the characters (mara is hottttt) and also the dweelers or whatever are fucking scary. The story is fast paced, giving some great character moments, mixed in with scary as fuck villains. I loved watching everyone shit on Aquaman and only a little kid could see how badass the dude really is when you piss him off. Also loved the relationship with Mara, very very good.
What I didn't like: THe last two issues slow down and aren't as excited as the other four. Also Mara chapter was little off. I dunno, something about it seemed weird or off balanced.
I overall really dug this. I now want to read the next few volumes hoping it keeps up the same goodness of the first!
